Find out more about your Zilch credit limit and why it might go up or down

Updated today

When you sign up to Zilch, we’ll give you your personalised credit limit. This is the amount you can use on Pay over 6 weeks purchases. If you’re not sure what yours is, you can find it on the Zilch app.

How does my credit limit work?

Your maximum credit limit is the total amount you can spend when you Pay over 6 weeks. Your available credit limit will show in the Zilch app and will change after every purchase you make or pay off, so you can easily keep an eye on how much you have left to spend with Zilch.

Why hasn't my credit limit gone back up after I paid an instalment?

Your credit limit will only go up once you pay off a whole purchase. So, if you spend £100, your credit limit won't increase by £25 after a payment is made every two weeks, it will only increase once by the full £100 after you've paid all your instalments in six weeks.

How can I increase my maximum Zilch credit limit?

You could increase your maximum credit limit by connecting Open Banking (this just means linking your Zilch account to your debit account). Your bank will share some of your financial data with us to give us a better understanding of your affordability. This will let us tailor your credit limit to what we think you can comfortably afford to repay.

Another way you could increase your Zilch credit limit is by repaying early. This just lets us know that you’re not borrowing outside of your means, so we might be able to reassess your credit limit.

Don't want your limit to go up?

If you're eligible for an increased limit, we'll change it automatically, but if you don't want this increase, just get in touch in the app to let us know:

  • Open the app

  • Go to Help

  • Scroll down to start a Live Chat

Why has my maximum Zilch credit limit amount decreased?

Your maximum Zilch credit limit may go down if you miss a payment.

You won’t be charged a late fee for missed payments. However, you might not be able to make any further purchases and your Zilch account could be temporarily or permanently frozen. Keep in mind that missed or late payments can also affect your credit score, so it’s good to stay on top of them.

If you’re worried you might miss a payment, there are ways we can help. You might have the option to Snooze a payment or you can contact us to see if we can rearrange your payment plan.
