How do I verify my identity with Zilch?

Find out how Zilch verifies your identity and what documents can be used as proof of identity or proof of address

As a responsible lender, we’re required to verify your identity when you open a Zilch account. We do this to prevent identity fraud and to keep your money safe.

How does Zilch verify identity?

When you open a Zilch account, we’ll need to verify your personal identity – make sure you are who you say you are – and also your address. You can verify your identity and address by providing us with specific documents.

Find out what you can use as proof of identity and address below.

Personal identity

We might ask you for a valid government-issued ID. This can be:

  • A valid passport

  • A driving licence or provisional licence

  • A national identity card with a photograph of the applicant (ie PASS Citizen card).

Address

We might also ask you for a document that proves your address. The name and address on this document need to match the details given to Zilch when you signed up. Again, this is to help us protect your identity against fraud. This can be:

  • A utility bill issued within the last three months

  • A bank statement issued within the last three months

  • A council tax bill for the current tax year

  • A UK driving licence (if not used to verify your age)

  • An original mortgage statement from a recognised lender issued for the last year

  • A solicitor’s letter confirming a recent house purchase or land registry, dated within the last three months

  • A council or housing association rent card or tenancy agreement for the current year

  • An NHS medical card or letter confirming registration to your GP’s practice.

Photo verification

At times, we might request a selfie of you holding up your ID documents. We’ll match your selfie against the photo ID you provide to ensure your account is as secure as possible. Don’t worry, this photo will only ever be used for identity verification purposes.
